DWTS Season 17: Week 3 Preview

It's Hollywood Night on DWTS tonight and there are already two injured celebs: Brant Daugherty and Bill Nye the Science Guy. It will be interesting to see how this plays out because Bill's knee looks really swollen and tender. I hope they are both feeling better soon. Brant's injury looks less serious, but how will both injuries play out in tonight's elimination?

Sharna Burgess is our guest this week and while we are sad to have her gone from the competition, we are thrilled to have her in studio with us at AfterBuzz TV. She's been a friend to our show since she was in the troupe and we are so happy to see all of her success on DWTS

So get those questions ready for Sharna by placing them in the comments below.

Just a couple of things to remember:
1. Fan questions are a supplemental part of our show. We will get to as many as possible if there is time. AfterBuzz TV shows were reduced to 50 minutes this season because our studios are so busy and there is a show in our studio immediately following our DWTS show.

2. If you are having trouble posting in the comments section, please clear your cache or the cookies on your computer. That usually does the trick!

Thanks! See you on Tuesday at 8pm PT on AfterBuzz TV....it will be a fun night!

VIDEO: The Beat MS Dance Walk: Thank You!

A huge thank you to our supporters who helped us raise money for The Beat MS Dance Walk. Chloe West and I were inspired by Courtney Galiano's dedication and courage during her visit to our SYTYCD AfterBuzz TV show this summer. It was a fun day and we wanted to capture what we did with a lot of shaky camera work, but a whole lot of enthusiasm.

Thank you, Kaitlyn, Lois, Stacey, Michelle, my mom, and one mysterious donor.....we appreciate your generosity!

Here's the video...and stick around to the end for a few familiar SYTYCD faces!

AfterBuzz TV DWTS Season 17: Henry Byalikov

What a week! As you know, we always try to get Henry Byalikov on twice during the season. Hopefully, we will get him on closer to the end. There was so much to talk about with 12 dances, Bill Nye's injury, the opening number and the Emmys that we did not get to the fan questions. However, Henry stayed after and we audio-recorded the questions and answers for you. So make sure to send a big "THANK YOU" to Henry on social media for being so kind to do that for all of us.

Henry answers YOUR fan questions:
Two things to note:
1. Many of you had multiple questions. I asked one question per fan.
2. The questions came only from my blog. Due to time constraints, any questions on Twitter or Facebook were not answered.

Thanks for understanding!

VIDEO: Kristin McQuaid & Revolution Dance Company Red Carpet Interviews

I hit the red carpet on Saturday night to interview Kristin McQuaid with the Revolution Dance Company at the El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood. Audrey Case and Will Thomas not only shared their experience working with McQuaid, but they also answered a few fan questions. I also caught up with Sophia Lucia and Asia Monet Ray who prove that the next generation of dancers are going to be forces to be reckoned with.

VIDEO: Bill Nye the Science Guy Injured, See His Paso Doble on DWTS

One of Season 17's most popular contestants on Dancing With the Stars, Bill Nye the Science Guy, was injured last night during the show. At the time, the trip didn't seem that bad and he brushed it off when his pro Tyne Stecklein asked him if he was okay. However, it seems his fall was much worse than he portrayed to Tyne and host Tom Bergeron.

ABC has confirmed that Bill is currently seeking medical attention for his injury.

In a statement, the network said, "We can confirm Bill Nye was injured during his performance last night and is currently seeking medical attention. We will continue to keep you posted on his progress."

RumorFix has reported that the injury involves his knee and he is having an MRI done. Depending on the severity of the injury, surgery is possible.

If he does drop out of the competition, there will most likely be no elimination next week. Due to his popularity, Bill most likely would have stuck around a few more weeks in the competition.

See his Paso Doble from last night. He falls just after the 3:06 mark. Bill does a great job of covering the fall though, he's a true performer.

Watch our DWTS show tonight at 8 p.m. PT live on AfterBuzz TV with guest Henry Byalikov.

Who Wore It Best?: Taylor Petites Edition

Everyone once in awhile, someone steals my look. (Ha ha...it could have been their look first.) It's happened a few times before here and here.

Me and Jesse Heiman

I wrote about this dress from Taylor Petites and wore it to host the red carpet of the 1st Annual Geekie Awards. Now the most "adorkable" geek wore the same dress. (It's very affordable, too!) She looks great in the outfit since the color matches her eyes and it's a nice contrast to her brunette hair.

Look, it's Zooey Deschanel!

Winter 2013 Camaro Project

As the temps here in Michigan continue to drop, I think I may have already parked my Camaro for the last time this year.  It was a much shorter season that past years, with my car only being on the road for the month of August and part of September, and only making a few big shows.  Thankfully, the major improvements are now complete, and all that is left is the little stuff to knock out.  Then, I should be ready to race early in the 2014 season.  It's been a long road back to the track, but I think I will be ready to go.  Here is the list of items I need to purchase or complete in order to be ready to go for next year.

1. Hooker Super Comp Headers - My Hedman headers fit like garbage, so this upgrade is much needed.

2. Mickey Thompson 275/60/15 ET Streets - I need to hook, and these sound like they'll do it.

3. Sound Deadener/Carpet - This car needs quieted down and more family friendly, as I'd like us ALL to ride to car shows/cruise nights next year.

4. AFR Valve Covers - My chrome ones are getting beat up/rusted, and I hate chrome. A nice set of AFR black covers would look nice.

5. TH400 Trans rebuild - I still have an occasional slip from 1st-2nd, so I think its time to freshen up the trans.

6. Plugs, wires, plugs, cap, and rotor - I can't recall the last time I put new wires on, plugs are seasonal, and cap and rotor usually just comes with the package.

7. AFR stud girdle - technically, I should have already had this.  Consistently running the valve train to 7,200 rpm's at the track though definitely warrants it.

8. Torque convertor flush/rebuild - Since I'm going through the trans, I may as well send the convertor out to Coan and have it inspected.  Plus, a roadtrip to Coan sounds fun.

9. Roll bar padding - Quick easy addition, and will keep my head from bouncing off the bars.

10. BBC engine mounts - I only recently realized I never replaced my sbc mounts on the frame, not realizing they are actually different.

11. Leaf spring pads/u-bolts - Seems I overtightened the poly pads last year, and split one.  So, I'm going back to the rubber ones, as they don't split.  U-bolts should be replaced too.

12. Trans fan - I have a cooler already, but a fan seems like a good idea for when I'm in dead stop traffic.

13. Flex Plate - I think the flex plate is equally responsible for my starter issues, as it looks like the starter did a number on some of the teeth.

14. Brake Proportioning valve/distribution block - When I switched to manual brakes a few years ago, I neglected to plumb in the distribution block, and it sounds like its something that'll help braking.  Wilwood makes a nice/clean all in one combo.

15. 5 point harness - need to be strapped into this rocket ship.

16. Headliner - One of the finishing touches I've been without.  I may even be able to reinstall the one that came out.

17. Starter rebuild - As I said, the starter has been acting up.  I don't care to be stranded.

18. Fan shroud - My mechanical flex fan took care of most all of my cooling troubles, but at a dead stop, the temp creeps up.  I think a shroud would fix that, though I may also add a small pusher fan as
well, for added insurance.

19. Gas tank straps - I may clean up and repaint the ones I have, but either way, I don't like the black straps against my silver galvanized tank.

20. Oil pan gasket - Replacement is long overdue from a few years ago, as I've grown tired of the random, untraceable thus far, underhood oil spray.

21. Gauge bevels - Angled bevels for my dash gauges, along with new rings on my gauges.  They've got a little beat up over the years.

22. Cover wiring - I have a stock load of convoluted tubing and zip ties, and plenty of wiring that needs covered.

23. Repaint the trunk/underhood - Both have started flaking and need some attention.

24. Rubber Hoses - These hoses may go back 15+ years, so I'm on borrowed time.

25. V-belts - The belts are likely as old as the hoses, so a set of replacements and a set of extras are
needed.

26. Secure fuel line/power cable - There are still a few areas that need better secured, and I may need to by more fuel line/fittings to reroute a section.

27. Battery Kill Switch - I have a switch, which I may install, but was leaning towards the push/pull lever activated style.

28. Remove fan relay - With my mechanical fan, I may not need one of the relays...unless I go with a pusher fan, then both relays will stay, the other for my trans cooler fan.

29. Oil Filter Adapter - Either a new one, or I may simply plug the bypass.  I recently noticed some unexplained oil fluctuation at both highway speeds and under heavy throttle.  Oil levels remained fine, so plugging the bypass would at least rule one possibility out.

30. Axle Studs - A longer set of studs that reach passed the end of the lug nuts.

31. Roll Control - A must have for smokey burnouts.  Thankfully, I already have it, it just needs installed.

So, there is the list.  Not too intimidating, and not too overly costly.  In fact, about 3 of the purchases account for 1/2 of the total cost.  Headers, tires, and sound deadener/carpet.  My plan is to start knocking out some of the easy stuff early on, and pull the engine/trans in the next couple of months.  I would LOVE to have everything back together and on the road by May at the very latest.  A full season of car shows, as well as hitting the track early in the season, and perhaps semi-regularly for the whole season.

Shakedown at the Summit - October 4-6, 2013

Here is one event I'd LOVE to go check out.  I'm actually off that weekend, but it's already set to be one busy weekend for me.  Rest assured, if I manage to make it, you'll hear all about it.  This is the type of racing that keeps the sport alive in my opinion.  Thankfully, our friends over at Bangshift.com will be offering FREE live streaming of the event.

VIDEO: 2013 Emmys: Nominated Choreographers Perform

I see a lot of you are searching my blog looking for the 2013 Emmys performance by the nominated choreographers. Here it is, thanks to my friend Al Kahn.

What a great night for dance! Congratulations, Derek Hough!

2013 Emmys Red Carpet: A Splash of Pretty

The Emmys were over three hours of a total hot mess. I can't even begin to tell you the worst moment. I tweeted over five hours of it. I'm exhausted.

So let's talk about the pretty.

1. Anna Gunn: If you're expected to win, always pick a classic gown that will look great 20 years from now. It's not the year to go avant garde or too haute couture. Gunn was spot on in her gorgeous  Romona Keveza dress. Congratulations on your win!

2. Christina Hendricks: She always strikes the right balance of enhancing her assets and not showing off too much. A perennial classy red carpet dresser and a top girl crush for me. Christian Siriano is her go-to designer and it's a great partnership.

3. Allison Williams: In a year littered with pastels and every shade of purple, it was refreshing to see this blue pop of color by the Girls star. The silhouette was extremely simple, but it worked in that perfect Ralph Lauren way.

4. Sarah Silverman: It might not be the night's most sophisticated gown, but it's definitely the most affordable dress on that red carpet tonight. The comedian wore a $110 Deadly Dames "Vamp" dress. Funny ladies aren't usually red carpet standouts, but I think she looks great. For shoe lovers, look at the curve of those sky-high stilettos...sexy!

5. Aaron Paul and wife Lauren Parsekian: I accidentally stumbled into their rehearsal dinner at Chateau Marmont earlier this year. Let me tell you that their constant lovebird gushing is not an act. They were the prettiest couple on the red carpet at the Emmys. In fact, he calls his wife "pretty bird." Swoon.

Fashion: Variety and Women in Film Pre-Emmy Party

 Connie Britton

It's Emmys weekend, kids! Time to enjoy all of the beautiful fashions from the parties and the red carpet. There were some gorgeous looks from Variety and Women in Film Pre-Emmy party on Friday night at Scarpetta at The Montage in Beverly Hills.

I'm a fan of Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss' dress. The pop of color is perfect for a pre-Emmy event.

What look is your favorite? Let me know in the comments below.

I will be live blogging the red carpet and the Emmys beginning at 3 p.m. PT. Join me on Twitter!

DWTS Season 17: Week 2 Preview

I hope you all like the photo.

Yes, Henry Byalikov is our guest on Tuesday. Many of you saw the announcement on Twitter earlier this week and you've been eagerly awaiting this post. It's been a busy week, but I finally had a free minute to get this up.

The wonderful thing about having Henry on the show is that it is great timing. He and Sharna Burgess are choreographing the opening number this week, so we will get the inside scoop on how it all came together.

The whole team is expected to be in studio this week: Anna, me, Jake and Suri.

Time to get those questions in! Fire away in the comments section below. We will see you all on Tuesday at 8pm PT on AfterBuzz TV.

My Thoughts on Derek Hough

This number alone should win him the Emmy

I have always maintained that I believe that Derek Hough is going to be one of the defining choreographers of his generation. I don't take that statement lightly. As someone who has been a student of dance history, think of the names you would put in that category: George Balanchine, Agnes DeMille, Jerome Robbins, Bob Fosse, Michael Bennett, Martha Graham. There are more, but it's not a list of thousands or even hundreds. I don't say that about any other pro on the show.

With a statement like that, it should be understood that you also have to be a great dancer and teacher in order to be classified as a "defining choreographer of a generation." You can't just be one thing.

On AfterBuzz TV this week, we were talking about Val and Derek and their strengths. If I am going to pick the one quality that makes Derek stand out on the show...yep, it's choreography. For Val, it's teaching. Does it mean they don't have the other qualities? Nope.

We are a show about dance, talking about dancers and why we love it so much. We give opinions that you won't always agree with, but the one thing we all agree upon is that we love dance. I'm one of the hosts of the show and as a part of my job, I have to balance my love for Derek's work with my appreciation and support for what other pros on DWTS bring to the table.

Come Sunday, I hope it's Derek who is holding that Emmy.

Feel free to add your thoughts in the comments below. I will respond to all comments here, but I'm going to keep the debate off of Twitter. Thanks, guys!  See you next week with our guest Henry Byalikov...who is also choreographing this week's opening number on DWTS with Sharna Burgess.

AfterBuzz TV DWTS: Julz Tocker

Jake DuPree, Julz Tocker, Kristyn Burtt

The day is finally here! We are back in studio for Season 17 of DWTS. I thought Julz Tocker was a really fun first guest. I was so happy he was at the show the night before because he gave us insight that we wouldn't have normally had. With all of the changes, I think it was an important aspect to talk about.

A couple of things that I want to address from our show last night:
1. Tyne Stecklein: I've seen the forums. I've seen what everyone has said. I want to take a different approach to talking about the situation. It's her first year. The producers wanted her. She danced with MJ, so she can dance. Ballroom is not her background, but look....she's trying in front of 16.2 million of us on live television. Let's give her our support.

2. Troupe: I think we are seeing how important the troupe is for training, choreography and learning the rhythm of the show. The transition to pro was much easier for Sharna, Emma and Sasha...discuss.

3. Choreography: This season, I really want to hold the pros even more accountable for what they are putting out there each week. It's why some of the cast members have been nominated for Emmys. We made it a part of our discussion each week on SYTYCD for Season 10, so I would like to discuss it more on AfterBuzz TV this season. Do you agree?

Thanks for all of your support. We are so glad to be back with all of you. I'm working hard on a guest for next week!

Dance Chat With Kristyn Burtt: Episode 2

It's episode 2 of Dance Chat! It's such a big week in dance: SYTYCD just wrapped up, DWTS begins and the Primetime Emmys are next weekend. In addition to all of that, I will be participating in the Beat MS Dance Walk with Courtney Galiano and also covering Kristin McQuaid's dance performance with several SYTYCD alumni.

Here is the breakdown on the episode
SYTYCD: 1:16
Primetime Emmys: 1:44
DWTS: 4:14

The question of the week: Do you like having Contemporary on the first week of DWTS or do you think it should be traditional ballroom?

Google Hangout: Let me know if you are interested in doing a Google Hangout about the Broadway documentary Every Little Step. If 10 or more people say "yes," then I will make that happen!

DWTS Season 17: Week 1 Preview

We are just days away from the kickoff episode of Season 17 of Dancing With the Stars. It's been a long summer without you, but a big "thanks" to those who joined me and Jake for Season 10 of SYTYCD. We had a blast with some amazing guests. We are hoping to keep that tradition going with this season of DWTS.

The entire crew is back on Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. PT this season: me, Suri Serano, Jake DuPree, Anna Trebunskaya...and one small addition: Baby Bump Trebunskaya! We are so excited for our co-host and her exciting new adventure.

Our first guest is locked and ready to go, so get those questions in for Julian Tocker, one of Season 16's troupe members. Questions go in the comments section below.

You can watch the show live here on Tuesday at 8 p.m. PT on AfterBuzz TV.

Our guest list is published here so you can mark your calendars for your DWTS favorites.

AfterBuzz TV SYTYCD: Neil Haskell

Ahhh, the season is over. After a lackluster Season 9, I thought it was going to be difficult to get revved up for Season 10. Boy, was I wrong. This has been one of the most exciting seasons in a long time. While I have been in the Jasmine camp for a long time, I am still happy for Amy. The Top 10 contestants are all incredibly talented and I think we are going to see many of them working post-tour.

I want to thank all of the SYTYCD guests who joined us this season because they made our show extra-special. Besides our epic tWitch and Allison Holker episode, Spencer Liff continues to be one of my favorite guests. I am excited to watch his climb to success as he choreographs his first Broadway show Hedwig and the Angry Inch with Neil Patrick Harris.

Team AfterBuzz TV will also be supporting Courtney Galiano's Beat MS Dance Walk on Sept. 22. If you would like to support us, here is our donation page. A big thanks to Kaitlyn and Lois for their generous donations. We appreciate it!

Thanks for a great season! Let me know in the comments below who your favorite AfterBuzz TV guest was for Season 10.

2013 Frankenmuth Autofest

013
Bright Red Mopar

This is the second year we've hit the Frankenmuth Autofest.  It's an amazing show, with so many cars that it's really hard to see all of them.  I know there were more than a few rows we simply skipped, as my body was starting to tell me "I'm tired of walking!"  My parents and in-laws also attended, and agreed, this show should be on our annual list of must see shows.  While I didn't drive my Camaro this year, I think I may have to drive it up next year.  If for nothing else, at least one of the days.  I have relatives that live nearby, so I could possibly leave the car there over night.

016
My wife would take one.

017
Slammed/tunnel rammed rat rod

018
This car was amazing.  What you can't see are the hundreds, perhaps thousands, of rivets.

019
This is without question, the nicest 2nd gen Firebird I have ever seen.  I'm not sure if it was all original, or restored, but it looked as though it had just rolled off the line.

021
Nice Impala.

025

026
This is the #1 car my wife would love to own, and it's also #1 on my list of cars I think my wife should own.  That's just one of the reasons I love her so much!

If I were to own an SUV, it would have to be like this.

Is it just me, or do these tires need a little attention?  A little tire spray would do wonders.
